Take a Snapshot

Since today's a jam-packed day, and I didn't accomplish anything too extraordinary this past week, I'm limiting myself on the length of today's post. Also, next week I'll be taking off from blogging, since it's the 13th week of the 2nd quarter, but I'll be working silently in the background, scrambling to finish Teyr'loch Delter Pach once and for all. (I'm skeptical, but we'll see.)

All that said, shortly after I posted last week's blog, I received a text from my eldest sister pointing out that you can, in fact, take snapshots with Scrivener, and it's quite simple to do, too. Ctrl + 5 nets you a screenshot of your current doc and then you can view it through the Information panel on the right side of the program, cycling between earlier versions just like you can in Google Docs. It's not an automatic process like it is in Google Docs, but it does exist.

Talk about a face-palm moment on my end, but that's part of the joy of learning, isn't it? Someone somewhere is always going to know more about something than you do. I think the most difficult part of learning as an adult is setting aside my own pride so that I can be receptive to what others have to teach without succumbing to frustration toward my own shortcomings.

Truly, the more I learn, the less I truly know.

Other Notable Accomplishments:

  • Crazy though it may be in this high heat, high humidity bubble, I started jogging again. Completed all of C25K Week 2, with Day 3 being sub 6'00"/km.

    • It's funny in a way. Excluding the rain and the mosquitos/gnats, the only reason I didn't go jogging more in the spring was because I felt that if I did, I would have to push myself instead of just going on a jog for the jog's sake. With this heat wave, it's almost as though I've given myself permission to back off, because pushing myself could result in heat exhaustion or worse. It's all internal. Nobody's forcing me to push harder, but I certainly felt the dread every time I considered going on a jog. Oh, how powerful the mind can be with encouraging or discouraging certain behaviors.

  • Didn't make nearly as much progress on TDP this week as I would have liked, but at least it's been steady even if it's been slow. I'm not surprised, since I'm wading into the section I was struggling with previously.

  • My wrists no longer hurt, except when I do something stupid and absentmindedly twist them while holding heavy weights. With the way they started hurting around the time I was using my mechanical keyboard in place of my laptop keyboard, I can't help but wonder if the extra force I needed to apply to press the keys, minimal as it seemed, was causing the flare of pain.

  • Pull-ups with the green band are still difficult, but they don't feel nearly as impossible as when I first switched over to the blue band from the orange.

  • Appointments. Lots and lots of appointments because when it rains it pours.

Questions for Contemplation & Discussion:

  • How receptive are you to learning new things? Are you constantly open to new ideas even for topics you believe you hold expertise, or does your expertise lead you to be more closeminded toward alternatives?

    • For me, I tend to be far more receptive when I'm learning something completely new. Despite how well I performed in school, I tend to lean more toward the idea that others know far more than I do. I enjoy learning, and then taking what I've learned and trying to pass it on to others.
